Travel to Thassos by ferry boat

No matter how you choose to travel, in order to reach Thassos you should use a ferry boat, the special short distances boat that transfers comfortable passengers and vehicles. Ferry boats depart for Thassos from two points: the port of Keramoti and the port of Kavala.

If you travel to Thassos from the port of Keramoti to Limenas of Thassos, the itineraries are quite frequent during the summer, approximately every 45 minutes. The trip lasts only 30 minutes.

If you travel to Thassos from the port of Kavala, you can choose between two itineraries. One line is Kavala-Skala of Prinos and the other Kavala-Limenas of Thassos. The duration of the trip is about one hour. The itineraries are quite frequent during the summer. The port of Kavala is also connected with other islands of the Aegean Sea. During summer, you may travel from Kavala to Skala of Prinos and Limenas of Thassos also with special itineraries of flying dolphins and the trip lasts about 30 minutes.

Travel to Thassos by plane

You cannot reach Thassos directly by plane, since the island does not have its own airport. Thassos, though, uses the neighbouring international airport of Kavala for its needs.

The airport of Kavala is called Alexander the Great and there are daily flights, mostly during summer, both domestic (daily scheduled flights from Athens) and scheduled international flights and charters, from many European cities. The international airport of Kavala is located at Chryssoupoli, 30 km to the west of the city and the port of Kavala and 13 km away from the port of Keramoti.

Travel to Thassos by car

You may comfortably travel to Thassos by car. There are excellent highways to Kavala and to the port of Keramoti from all neighbouring cities and Thessaloniki. Thanks to the brand new Egnatia Odos, you need approximately two hours to reach Kavala from Thessaloniki and about two and a half to reach Keramoti by car.

Furthermore, again thanks to Egnatia Odos, you may travel to Thassos by car much more easily from the Balkan countries and from Eastern Europe. You may find below some indicative kilometres from big cities in Greece and the Balkans:

Travel to Thassos by coach

You may travel to Thassos by bus or coach, via Kavala, from Thessaloniki and Athens, using the regular coach lines of KTEL, with very frequent daily itineraries (about every hour) from Thessaloniki. There are coaches’ stations on the island at Limenas of Thassos and Skala of Prinos and they reach all the villages of the island, both seaside and mountainous, but also the main beaches, with often connections according to the departures and arrivals of ferry boats.
